Audio Illusions

Audio Illusions

As we all know, yanny or laurel was a huge sensation. A controversy between people that in fact made a couple break up and friendships to be destroyed. If you aren't aware of this trend click the video down below and see if you hear yanny or laurel. Make sure you show this video to multiple people and see what they hear.

Audio illusions are false interpretations of a real sound. These perceptions are like optical illusions. For the yanny or laurel illusion laurel is the real word. Laurel is the low-frequency pitch of the word and yanny is the high-frequency pitch. Younger people like toddlers to teens hear yanny while older people here laurel. There are many different audio illusions out there. Another famous one is brainstorm v.s. green needle. If you think of the word brainstorm you hear the word brainstorm. If you think of the word green needle you hear green needle. When your brain prepares for the word brainstorm/or green needle you interpret it that way. Some people can do this with yanny or laurel. Don't believe me? Try it out yourself.

The coolest audio illusion, in my opinion, is this last one. I'm not very sure what it's called but it sure is interesting. Here is a clip from the Ellen Show. Make sure you skip to 2:18 and end at 2:45.

Freaky isn't it? Like Ellen says "it's like living in a horror movie."  It's kind of like brainstorm v.s. green needle. You hear static; gibberish like a broken radio. Then you hear the next clip saying "the juice of lemons makes fine punch." Then when you hear the first clip again you hear "the juice of lemon makes fine punch" but in a more raspy tone. Your brain plugs in the second clip into the static/gibberish and combined you get a clip of what someone would probably sound like in your nightmares

You might be wondering what this has to do with conspiracies, right? Well, as crazy as this sounds, people think the government is using audio illusions to control us. Now hear me out when I say this. You know the song "The Middle", the one by Zedd? If you do, you might realize that the song is very high pitch. Like we said young people hear yanny because it is high pitched. So, that means young people like high pitched noises. Do you see where I'm going with this? If you lower the pitch for the song "The Middle" it sounds like a normal, basic song that no one would really notice. But because of the high pitch people who don't even like pop music, I'm talking about fans of the '80s to 90's music, bought the song and listened to it a million times on YouTube. The song even got #1 trending on Q102.1- a radio station. That's just crazy. Comment on what you think.
